Jim Webb campaign addresses first 2016 presidential election controversy

Wednesday, December 31, 2014

Yesterday, a spokesperson for former U.S. Senator Jim Webb, a potential 2016 Democratic Party presidential candidate, attacked the Business Insider for its report Monday that Webb’s Political Action Committee (PAC) paid nearly US$100,000 (about €80,000) to Webb’s wife and daughter over the course of the past six years. Ashleigh Owens, who represents Webb’s Born Fighting PAC, accused the Business Insider of “[a]dding up numbers across several years [to create] a sensational headline”. The controversy marks the first for Webb since he became the first major candidate to open an exploratory committee last month.

Claiming the Webb family “has made quite a bit of money from [Jim Webb’s] political career”, the Business Insider reported that of US$961,515.34 raised, Webb’s PAC paid a total of US$91,999.91 to his wife Hong Le Webb and daughter Amy Webb Hogan, with US$14,834.34 and US$24,412.20 disbursed, respectively, in 2014, years after fundraising ceased.

“This story as written misrepresents reasonable compensation for real and provable work done”, said Owens in a press release. “The activities of the PAC increased in 2014 when Jim Webb decided to re-enter the political discussions of our country.”

According to Owens, in 2014, Hong Le Webb, who works as an attorney, was paid for “vetting design consultants, negotiating contracts and content management” relating to the exploratory committee website. Hogan was compensated for her work in the “administration, management and design” of websites as well as the “handling of FEC [Federal Election Commission] compliance matters”.

Webb, a 68-year-old Vietnam War veteran, served as Secretary of the Navy under President Ronald Reagan. He was elected to represent Virginia in the U.S. Senate in 2006 and served one term. Webb favors less US intervention abroad, fewer free trade agreements, and supports gun rights.

According to National Interest editor Jacob Heilbrunn, Webb’s views on foreign policy and social issues may attract “anti-war progressives as well as conservative-minded Southern white men.” The Nation labeled him the “worst nightmare” of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is widely expected to run for president in 2016.

U.S. News & World Report reported at least one Clinton operative pitched unflattering stories about Webb to media outlets since late last month.

Right To Education Begins With Primary Education In Kids School

Right To Education Begins With Primary Education In Kids School

by

mllenniumlittle

There s a big hue and cry of the news of RTE. RTE is the right to education according to this rule every child has a right to education. Why there is so much noise about nothing? Yes I mean nothing! What is really wrong in the fact that all kids have a right to education and good education? What I mean by good education is that, in schools there should be learning happening not just teaching.

I am sure you agree to this fact that in most of the kids school in India what happens is only teaching not learning. I know I am confusing to the core. You are thinking that the writer of this article has gone off his head. Yes the government is very right in passing the bill of RTE but I wish they could also ensure well qualified teacher in the kids school in India.

Patience my dear readers! I am going ahead to explain to you the meaning of teaching and learning. What I mean that teacher is teaching with all earnestness but no one makes sure if learning has happened. Has the child learnt or not? Yes, the teachers teach in the class and the students come back blank in the evening. Time passes and the burden of the child s No learning keeps increasing and by the time the child crosses the primary education stage then the child is still at no nothing stage or if the child is lucky to have an educated mother and she is free to look after the child then child will have some learning. Yes I say some learning, as we cannot compare the teaching of a qualified and trained professional to the mother at home.

Mother at home will teach few things but for an effective learning to occur the teachers should be well trained. I know you will say of course for a kids school no training is required and I must say I beg to differ. Unfortunately in India no care is taken for primary education which is one of the most important stages of learning. Even if learning happens, it is not the learning of an organized way of working, or doing work on time or using the toilets properly and keeping it clean and many such other things essential for the kids school, instead the teachers aimlessly make them cram nursery rhymes, whose meaning child hardly comprehends or the alphabets.

Some schools go ahead in claiming that they teach multiplication tables, alphabets, rhymes and some other things .Yes they do teach, now I repeat my question again, Does learning occur? Does the poor child know what he is cramming daily along with the teacher? OH! Yes I see a benefit Parents will be able to show off the ability of their child to cram so many things in the kitty party or when their guests arrive.

I want to say is that RTE is good in fact very mush required if we want to bring our country in top of the list in all fields. Unfortunately the bill passes admissions are done but still the child does not complete his primary education to be a fruitful citizen of India.

You should recall that primary education is the establishment for your kid\’s education. Today we look for kids to know more by the time they begin kindergarten. Assist your kid addition certainty by making learning fun and easy at this age and you will help your kid an excited long lasting learner. At long last, primary education is significant resulting from the fact that it can give your youngster the edge in an intense globe and education atmosphere.

20-horse field for Derby dash

Saturday, May 7, 2005

The 131st run for the roses in Louisville, KY is set for Saturday at Churchill Downs. Post time is 6:04pm EDT under what should be partly sunny skies and a fast track. The 20-horse field contains 10 strong contenders in what promises to be a fast pace out front in the Kentucky Derby.

Trainer Nick Zito, the 2-time derby winner boasts 5 stable horses running the race, and has the odds-on favorite Bellamy Road. The George Steinbrenner owned horse won convincingly in 4 of its last 5 trips. At its #16 post position, it will have to get out quickly, or be on the outside going into the first turn where it would have to fight for position. Given the early starting speed of Spanish Chestnut, it seems unlikely that any horse will easily set the pace.

Showing strong closing in its last 4 races is Bandini, ridden by top New York jockey John Velazquez, a 6-time Breeder’s Cup winner. If this horse can hold onto the pace, watch for him at the finish line.

For today’s 1 ¼ mile race, Jeremy Rose on Afleet Alex looks dangerous, where both horse and jockey are experienced. But it was Wilko who prevailed in their meeting at the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last October.

A Chicago Tribune computer analysis predicts a win for High Fly, based on its “lack of flaws”. In that prediction they note criteria on which it was calculated, but nothing accounts for the race day excitement of roaring crowds in these 3-year-old thoroughbreds.

Last year the jammed Churchill Downs drew 140,000 people on a rainy Saturday to watch Smarty Jones win. The Derby run is the first leg in USA horse racing’s Triple Crown. The last horse to win the triple crown was Affirmed in 1978.

Explosion in French college

Friday, March 24, 2006A large explosion ripped through a research building of the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Mulhouse (ENSCMu) in Mulhouse, eastern France. Mulhouse’s mayor, Jean-Marie Bockel, confirmed that the blast killed one person and injured another. Police declared Code Red, and the neighborhood was evacuated.

According to the French Press, TF1, the victim was in his forties and had worked at the institition for about a year. A young woman was seriously injured and about a dozen people received minor injuries, with two suffering from shock. 150 firefighters were on the scene.

The ENSCMu is a technology college, with an enrollment of 8,000 and a 25-hectare campus near the town’s centre. It is known for its museum of coloring agents (Musée des Colorants), which has about 2700 samples, mainly from the second part of the nineteenth century. The museum’s database is available online in French.

The blast occurred at 11:25 GMT (12:25 local time). It is reported to have been heard two kilometres away and to have broken the windows of nearby buildings. The blast was followed by a fire that was contained by about 15:00 (local time).

The explosion’s cause is not yet clear but it is believed to have happened in a ground-floor laboratory in an annex building constructed in 1977. The lab was apparently focused on industrial safety.

Minnesota oil pipeline explosion and fire kills two

Friday, November 30, 2007

A major oil pipeline in Minnesota exploded and caught fire, killing two workers. The pipeline carries oil from Saskatchewan, Canada to close to Chicago, United States, representing 16% of America’s total oil imports.

The section of the pipe that exploded was undergoing maintenance at the time to address a pinhole leak first identified three weeks earlier, and patched at the time with a metal sleeve. On Wednesday, the entire section was removed and replaced with a new one. When oil was reintroduced on Thursday morning, oil leaked where the new section joined the pre-existing pipe, triggering the fatal explosion.

The fire was extinguished later the same day.

The line is split between four separate pipes. After the explosion, all four pipes were shut down, resulting in the global price surge, but this subsided for the most part after it became clear that the three undamaged pipelines had returned to normal operation, restoring 80% of the line’s capacity, and that the accident pipe is expected to be back in use in a matter of days.

“There were no problems found in that area where the leak occurred,” reporters were told by Larry Springer, spokesman for Enbridge, the Canadian company that owns the line. High-tech equipment had been through the line in 2006 to check for any signs of problems.

Enbridge identified the deceased as Dave Mussati Jr. and Steve Arnovich, both of whom were contract workers based in Superior, Wisconsin. The damaged section of pipe is in Clearbrook, which is approximately 350 miles Northwest of Minneapolis.

Enbridge metallurgists have been sent to examine the failed section in an effort to determin the cause of the accident. Other Enbridge workers are working to clear spilled oil from the site. It is expected that once this is complete, the pipe will return to service.

Global crude oil prices temporarily spiked by over US$4 per barrel but closed yesterday slightly above original prices.

My Spy Cam | Bring Home Good Equipments

By Fred Romano

Innovation at the highest level is converting values into knowledge and experience. Nowadays there is a good record of innovations in science and technology. The inventions of cameras, hidden cameras, and spy cams are included in the latest innovations. There are many types of cameras. The CCTV cameras, the CCD cameras, the CMOS cameras the CID cameras and many more various types of cameras are available in the market. There are small wrist cameras also. The tiny cameras are so easy to carry along with us everywhere with very convenience. They can be installed in the cigarette cases, in the wrist watches, in the mobile phones in the bracelets and so on. We can carry these cameras to capture the images if we are on any investigations, or we can as well use these cameras openly to capture the happy moments which we are spending when we are occasionally. We should not go on to the size of the cameras. Even the tiniest cameras does it work wonderfully. The successful and authentic work which is made by the spy cam at affordable cost in all facets of life is incredible. Vision is the art of seeing the possible. The introduction of the spy cams has made people’s life easier.

Our limitations stare at us. I think our capacities to enhance competencies to master change are limited. From a common person’s perspective one question nags: How do successful people amongst us remain anchored, sane, and earn enough to sustain their families in the wayward process of change? Nowadays many people are going for changes in the way of doing business. They are opting for new and original dreams. All want to secure the future as well as the running business and possessions without any interruptions. An easy way to protect everything is to install spy cams at various locations in and around our house and businesses premises and then relax. This is a good way to monitor the work which is going on even in our absence.

My neighbor was alone. She had lost her husband recently. She had a baby of 2 years old. There was no one to take care of the baby and she also had to for work. She did not want the baby to get neglected. She wanted to employ a nanny for her. But she was not sure if the nanny would take care of the child properly. She had no option, but to employ a nanny. But when she shared her fear with me, I suggested her to install a nanny cam so that she can be tension free and concentrate on her office work properly. This suggestion really helped her out. She readily agreed to buy a nanny cam. She logged on to the website to have a look at the spy cams. She placed an order for it and it was shipped to her house within a few days. Now she was happy that she could observe the movements of nanny which she had employed for the benefit of her baby.

Half a million z?oty vanish from the bank account of Lech Wa??sa

Tuesday, July 1, 2008

According to Polish radio station, RMF FM, almost half a million Polish z?oty (almost US$ 235,000) vanished from the bank account of Lech Wa??sa, a former President of Poland and the original leader of Solidarno?? (Solidarity). The case is already under investigation by the public prosecutor in Gda?sk.

The radio station identified the suspect as a former employee of Millennium Bank and the son of a former co-worker of Wa??sa. The Prokuratura alleges that Micha? L. stole about 870,000 z?oty (about US$408,000) from two bank accounts, one of which belongs to Wa??sa. The bank has already returned all the money.

Lech Wa??sa downplayed the situation. “I have all the money I had. I can show you I haven’t lost even a grosz“, he said in a interview with RMF FM.

Staffordshire hoard goes on display in British Museum in London, England

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

Some of the notable pieces from the gold and silver hoard which was found in a private field in Staffordshire, England by a metal-detector user have been put on display in the British Museum in the city of London.

Approximately 1,500 pieces were found in July of this year; the discovery was reported by news sources in September. The value of the hoard itself is still being checked. 18 of the pieces have now gone on display in the museum in London, England, and can be seen by members of the public.

Fred Johnson, who is the owner of the land in which the hoard was found, said: “It’s been an incredible experience. I’m overwhelmed by it all. They say this will change the history books; it’s a strange thought that came from something lying in my field all this time. I’m trying to keep a level head about it. I’m trying not to think at all about the value of it.” Johnson will share the sum of the value of the hoard with Terry Herbert, who found the pieces. The hoard is believed to date back to the 7th century.

“People laugh at metal detectorists,” Herbert said in late September. “I’ve had people go past and go ‘beep beep, he’s after pennies’. Well no, we are out there to find this kind of stuff and it is out there.”

What is interesting about the hoard as a whole is all the objects are associated with war to some or a greater extent.

Michael Lewis is the deputy head of the Department of Portable Antiquities in the British Museum. Speaking to BBC News about this event, he said: “The view is that it was probably in some sort of container but that has not survived and it was deliberately hoarded, put into the ground, what is unclear is why, and I suppose what we find is they would have been objects that had been stripped from the enemies’ weapons.

“What is interesting about the hoard as a whole is all the objects are associated with war to some or a greater extent. What the hoard consists of is mainly gold objects, there are some silver ones, basically they have been stripped from whatever they were on for instance sword fittings. What it demonstrates is that the Anglo-Saxons as a people were very able to do amazing things with objects and I reckon people nowadays attempting to make these objects would have great difficulty in doing so.”

Wikinews interviews World Wide Web co-inventor Robert Cailliau

Thursday, August 16, 2007

The name Robert Cailliau may not ring a bell to the general public, but his invention is the reason why you are reading this: Dr. Cailliau together with his colleague Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web, making the internet accessible so it could grow from an academic tool to a mass communication medium. Last January Dr. Cailliau retired from CERN, the European particle physics lab where the WWW emerged.

Wikinews offered the engineer a virtual beer from his native country Belgium, and conducted an e-mail interview with him (which started about three weeks ago) about the history and the future of the web and his life and work.

Wikinews: At the start of this interview, we would like to offer you a fresh pint on a terrace, but since this is an e-mail interview, we will limit ourselves to a virtual beer, which you can enjoy here.

Robert Cailliau: Yes, I myself once (at the 2nd international WWW Conference, Chicago) said that there is no such thing as a virtual beer: people will still want to sit together. Anyway, here we go.

Back Stretches For Back Pain: Pilates

Back Stretches For Back Pain: Pilates

by

jason@makeadream.info

Pilates is becoming increasingly popular ever since Joseph Pilates first started teaching the routines he developed, before his migration to the USA in 1925. What the routines do is to help the trainee become more body focused and body aware. Essentially, teaching you how to move and breathe correctly and to overcome all the poor body conditioning as a result of the modern lifestyle and work practices. Movements are linked to breathing. Breathing has always been an effective tool for reducing stress. Pilates linked this to reducing stress in the body with his exercise routines.

The effect of stress in the body is to tighten the muscles. Stretching, relieves that stress and consequently, helps the muscles to recover. In particular, Pilates focuses on the core muscle group. These are all found around the hip, pelvis and lower back areas of the torso – the body core.. If you think about how we learned to do all the things we do, it is easy to see how we “conditioned” our body to move a certain way – same as learning to ride a bike, really. We repeat the process over and over again, until it becomes automatic. But what if the auto-pilot got it wrong? Or the training (conditioning) was wrong? It is not going to be corrected overnight. It requires a series of repetitive exercises to re-condition the body to move correctly, and to build a strong core, thus bringing relief to those who suffer with back pain. A series of back stretches for back pain, repeated daily, or at least, 4 or 5 times a week, will help to condition your body to move in a correct way to relieve the pain by building strength in your core support muscles. Just remember, it is a sense of quality of stretching movements rather than the quantity, where proper breathing is also essential, particularly as a stress reducer. If you compare Pilates to other strength building routines, you will find that the usual exercises often build short bulky muscles with little elasticity. Another point to remember is that weak muscles that are not exercised become weaker, so that only the muscles that get exercise, get stronger. You get a muscular imbalance which can be easily seen to be a cause of chronic back pain. Pilates stretching and exercise routines focus on a whole core muscle group strengthening, particularly the abdominal muscles and those close to the spine, so that this imbalance simply does not occur. The stretches and exercises work on several muscle groups at once, through gentle, continuous movemnent. Basically, you re-condition (re-train) your body to move in a more efficient, safer healthier way. You will also get an evenly conditioned body, as a result. One thing to remember, is concentration. Pilates back stretches for back pain and all Pilates training does require a high level of concentration. This is to undo all the previous conditioning, and, once mastered, become as automatic in life as walking, riding a bike and all those other things that you take for granted, but, which become a nightmare if you suffer from chronic back pain.

If you would like to get 5 free tips for back pain relief, then please take a look at our Exercise For Back Pain series of routines to get rid of back pain; just click on the link.
