The Buenos Aires Experience

Submitted by: Robert Murgatroyd

How many of you people have actually been to or planning to go on vacation in Buenos Aires, Argentina? For those who have been there, I know your experience is well worth it. For those who haven t but are planning to go, I can t tell you enough how much fun your Buenos Aires vacation would be. It all depends on your willingness to travel and your sense of adventure.

Before you start packing and embark on your Buenos Aires Travel experience, let me give you a brief backgrounder on the city of the fair winds . Buenos Aires, Argentina as it is called today was discovered in the early 15th century by a European navigating in the name of Spain thus the very obvious Spanish influence.

Today, Buenos Aires has grown into a city that sustains itself. It has also grown to become a very multicultural city. The people of Buenos Aires are called Porte os. Most of them are of Spanish and Italian descent. There are also a percentage of German, Greek, Irish, Portuguese, French, Croatian, English, Welsh and Asian immigrants. It s a city that has a very rich history and tradition.

Buenos Aires, Argentina is a very stylish city and it still has a lot of interesting buildings built from the early 19th century that are still standing to this day. You don t have to worry about where to stay because there are a lot of luxury hotels in Buenos Aires. There s the Home Hotel which is considered one of the best hotels. There s also the Faena Hotel & Universe just to name a couple.

Wining and dining in style is never a problem. There is never a shortage of fine restaurants in Buenos Aires with a wide assortment of menus and international cuisines. Beef is one of the specialties in Argentina so you can expect some excellent steaks and meat on the menu as well as Italian and Mediterranean specialty cuisines which reflects the rich ethnic heritage of many Argentines.

Let s talk about the Buenos Aires Nightlife. I guess it s safe to say that Buenos Aires hardly ever sleeps. There are some pubs that open as early as 6pm but serious partying and clubbing doesn t start before 2am and often goes on until 7am or later of the next day. There are a lot of choices when it comes to the most popular entertainment areas in Buenos Aires.

If traditional entertainment is what you re looking for, then the streets around the Recoleta cemetery is where you should go. This is where some of the traditional Buenos Aires attractions are still alive. It s just sad that it seemed to have lost some of its appeal nowadays. It has become more of a tourist zone. You should not be disappointed since there are enough restaurants, clubs, bars and different Buenos Aires attractions to see and experience.

You might also find yourself thinking about what to wear for the trip? Immerse yourself and be part of the IN crowd by knowing what to wear and what s in style in the Buenos Aires fashion sense. The Argentines love to dress in style. It would be wise to dress in layers since some nights could be quite cool.

If you re thinking about shopping in Buenos Aires, you would be able to find a lot of shops and boutiques that sell clothes and accessories all over the city. These stores range from fashionable designer clothing to the more alternative skater look. Argentine fashion has gained respect internationally and there are a lot of designers who have their own stores in different locations around the city.

First plane arrival for more than 10 years to renewed airport in Grozny, Russia

Thursday, October 5, 2006

Grozny, a city of the Chechen Republic, Russia, celebrated the arrival and the later departure of the first passenger aircraft, a Tu-134A-5, for more than 10 years. The renovated Severny (Northern) Airport opened prior to the 30th birthday of the Republican Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov, son of the former PM Akhmad Kadyrov who was killed by terrorists, though no official relation of these events has been confirmed.

The formal opening of Grozny airport occurred under tightened security precautions since the Chechen rebel threat still exists in the region. The airport was used as the base of the 46th Brigade of the Russian Interior troops.

The main building of the airport was heavily damaged by the years of Chechen Wars. Now it has been reconstructed in compliance with international standards.

First arrests made in Singapore for possession of New Psychoactive Substances

Sunday, May 4, 2014

The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) of Singapore announced yesterday the first arrests made following the listing of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) as Class A controlled drugs on Thursday, under the First Schedule of the Misuse of Drugs Act. The suspects, two unnamed male Singaporeans, aged 22 and 23, were reportedly arrested at a shopping center in Tampines on Friday evening for possession of synthetic cannabis, also known as “K2”. Authorities recovered 71.7 g of the drug from the suspects.

Under suspicion from the CNB that the 22-year-old suspect was engaged in trafficking of the illegal substance, a further search of his home yielded an additional 22.3 g of synthetic cannabis, raising the total amount of the drug confiscated following the arrests to 94 g.

Synthetic cannabis, listed as an NPS, and known as a “legal high”, is one of a group of designer drugs created to stimulate the effects of controlled drugs including cocaine, Ecstasy, methamphetamine, and heroin. The CNB has linked NPS abuse to symptoms including severe intoxication, hallucinations, paranoia, seizures, cadiovascular problems, renal failure, and death.

Typically having chemical structure very similar but slightly different from controlled drugs, these substances have been illegalized, and their possession, consumption, trafficking, and manufacturing now carry penalties comparable to that of controlled drugs. Last year, under the Fifth Schedule of the Misuse of Drugs Act, designed to study NPSs before their illegalization, they could be confiscated by authorities, but no further penalty would be levied.

The changes to NPS status follow increases over the past year in NPS trafficking and consumption, according to the CNB. Commenting on the move, a spokesperson for the CNB revealed the organization has reported at least thirty NPS seizures in the period from last May through this February. “Thus far,” the spokesperson noted, “synthetic cannabinoids and synthetic cathinones are the two more commonly detected NPS”.

Termed an “alarming new drug problem” by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, its World Drug Report 2013 indicated an increase to 348 NPSs in 2013, up from 251 in 2012. Capitalizing on their legality — which no longer holds in Singapore — NPSs have been known as “legal highs”, “research chemicals”, “plant food”, and “bath salts”.

Commenting on the illegalization of NPSs, Ng Ser Song, the director of the CNB, had this to say. “The drug situation is challenging and the number of repeat drug abusers and young drug abusers remains a concern. With the abuse and trafficking of NPS on the rise, listing these new psychoactive substances as Class A controlled drugs signals our unequivocal stance that these substances are illegal and no different from other controlled drugs.”

Under the recently enacted First Schedule of the Misuse of Drugs Act, if found guilty of drug trafficking, the 22-year-old suspect may be penalized with a minimum of five years in prison and five strokes of the cane. The act also allows the possession or consumption of New Psychoactive Substances to be punished with a maximum of 10 years imprisonment and/or a $20,000 fine.

8 Natural Remedies You Can Try To Stop Hair Loss And Help Hair Growth

By Forest Sun

If you suffer from hair loss or thinning of hair and look for ways to stop hair loss and help hair growth, here are 8 remedies you can try.

1. Take about 10-15 minutes to massage the scalp before going to bed. Rub your hands till quite warm. Begin from forehead, massage your way down to the nape. Repeat .Good massage stimulates the blood circulation and strengthens the hair follicles in the scalp. Make it a habit. Do it every night, over time, you’ll find remarkable result. Not only does it help stop hair loss, but it helps hair growth. You’ll have shiny healthier hair.

2. Head Stand (this is my favorite) – stand on your head and keep it for 1- 5 minutes if you can. If you can’t do it that long, a few seconds will do. You can gradually increase the time when you feel more comfortable with the posture. It helps increase blood circulation to the scalp, thus promotes hair growth. A word of caution, for people who have certain conditions, this posture may not be suitable. Consult your doctor before you begin.

3. Cut five thick slices of ginger. Put them in a pot of water. Bring it to boil. Keep it boiling for 10 minutes. Rinse hair with the water when it becomes lukewarm. It helps prevent hair loss and promote hair growth.

4. Drink cucumber juice daily. Cucumber is a fantastic source of silica. Silica is important for hair health. Daily cucumber juice intake helps prevent hair loss and promote your to hair grow healthier.

5. Apply Aloe Vera jel directly to the scalp. Leave it for 20 minutes. Rinse. Twice a week. Aloe Vera has been long been known for their beneficial effects to hair health and hair loss prevention. It helps the scalp by healing it and its balancing the pH level, thus making the scalp a better environment for your hair.

6. Soak one ounce of ground rosemary, two ounces of ground sage, and a half ounce of ground nettles in one pint of ethyl alcohol for a week. Strain the solution and add one ounce of castor oil and one ounce of water to the liquid. Apply the solution at night before bed or before shampooing. Rosemary and sage are herbs that promote a clean scalp, stimulation of the hair root, and thickening hair.

7. Put a few drops of vinegar into warm water. Rinse your hair with the water. Vinegar is thought to have a normalizing effect on the scalp’s oil glands and pH level as well as having a strong cleansing effect. This practice can prevent hair loss and help hair grow healthier and thicker.

8. Mix one teaspoonful of apple cider vinegar with a glass of water. Take it with or between meals. For hair loss caused by a tissue salt deficiency, apple cider vinegar can supply the deficiencies where needed, thus help re-establish a natural balance and help hair grow.

Choose whatever you like to give it a shot and stop hair loss.

Paris Hilton mocks John McCain presidential ad

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

American celebutante and businesswoman Paris Hilton has bashed a recent presidential campaign ad by 2008 U.S. presidential hopeful John McCain in which he compared his rival Barack Obama to celebrities such as Hilton and Britney Spears. In McCain’s TV ad, it was stated that Obama was “the biggest celebrity in the world.”

Hilton recorded and uploaded a video to comedy website Funny or Die, in which she mocked McCain by calling him a “wrinkly white-haired guy.”

“Hey America. I am Paris Hilton, and I am a celebrity too,” she states at the beginning of the video, but not before images of the Star Wars character Yoda and the cast of The Golden Girls are paraded across the screen apparently comparing the characters to McCain.

“Only I am not from the olden days, and I am not promising change like ‘that other guy’. I’m just hot,” remarked Hilton, adding, “I guess I am running for president,” since McCain’s TV ad showed her.

McCain’s advertisement, released early this week, states, “Is the biggest celebrity in the world ready to help your family?” According to the Boston Globe and video displayed on its website, the narrator then points out that “the real Obama promises higher taxes, more government spending. So, fewer jobs.”

Bill Burton, a spokesman for Obama, responded to the ad: “Is the biggest proponent of George Bush’s tired, failed policies ready to bring about change? Another day brings another dishonest attack from John McCain. While Senator McCain knows that Senator Obama has proposed cutting taxes for 95% of American families, what he’s not telling us is that he wants to give $4 billion in tax breaks to the oil companies, continue giving tax breaks to corporations that ship our job overseas, and provide no direct tax relief for more than 100 million middle-class families.”

Hilton appears in good spirits in her video and even thanks McCain for endorsing her. “So thanks for the endorsement white-haired dude. And I want America to know, that I am like totally ready to lead.”

“Woofstock” dog festival in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

North America’s largest outdoor dog festival came back to Toronto last weekend for its fifth year. It ran from the 9th of June to the 10th of June at Toronto’s historical St. Lawrence Market. A Wikinews reporter was there on Sunday to report on some of the events that happened on the last day.

The “Woofstock” dog festival attracted as many as 140,000 people with their dogs. The festival had tons of accessories, sold under tents, to buy for dogs; food, toys, designer clothes, and more. About 400 vendors and exhibitors were there to promote their products, which also gave private dog companies or groups a chance to show their new products. The local SPCA and some animal rescues were under tents answering questions from visitors. While walking, all visitors could see the CN Tower and other very tall buildings.

One of the local TV stations, Citytv, was there. They hosted a live event at the show which was broadcast on TV. People came up on the stage and asked questions regarding their dogs and the host and co-host answered them.

A man, who called himself the “Chalk Master”, drew two pictures on pavement with chalk. He did it for free but donations were welcome. One was a picture of a girl’s head beside a dog’s head, and another with a wolf.

“Hello Humans. I’ve been invited here to provide your eyeball(s), with some pretty colours. I don’t get paid as I work this weekend strictly for tips… so, if you like what you see please make a DONATION. If you don’t like it simply reach into the pocket of the person next to you and give me their money. CHALK MASTER.”

A contest called “Canada’s top dog” had its own tent with a professional photographer taking pictures of dogs behind a white screen; the winning photo is to be published on the cover of “Puppy and dog basics” magazine.

Large “Gourmet” dog bones were also served from a cart and table.

Next year’s festival is expected to be bigger and better with even more attractions.

Cut Your Energy Bills Today

byadmin

Keeping warm in the winter can be a challenge, especially when you’re faced with high heating bills. Most people use space heaters and other direct contact heating to keep them warm while running their furnaces on low in the background. Whether you’re using propane tanks in Manchester CT, or power from your local energy company, there are ways to save on heating costs. Here are a few of them to get you started.

Whole Home Insulation

If you haven’t already done so, make sure that your home is fully insulated for the winter. It’s not enough to just insulate the attic and not the rest of the home, especially if you have an older structure. Your walls need to be insulated to keep the cold air from coming into the cracks and crevices of the outer walls of your home. You can have a company do this for you, or you can do it yourself. It’s one of the best ways to keep the heat in and save on heating costs in the winter.

Window Coverings

Your window coverings should have a thermal backing. Thermal coverings can help keep the cold out. You can also cover your windows with plastic to ensure that no cold air seeps in from that area. This is a simple task that can be done within a few hours, depending on the size of your home. When you’re out buying propane tanks in Manchester CT, stop and pick up a roll of plastic. It’s inexpensive and could make a big difference in the amount of cold air that enters your home from the windows.

Layered Clothing

When you’re at home in the winter, layer up your clothing to keep from having to turn up the thermostat. Add a layer of long johns to your normal clothing, and this could make a big difference in how you feel. Heavy sweaters that are easy to remove are also ideal in winter. Wool socks and other warm materials can be beneficial when the winter months arrive and you’re not able to pay for the increase in power needed to keep warm. You will need to keep your pipes from freezing, so turning your furnace off entirely to use a space heater or any other source of alternative heating is not recommended.

Start your search for propane tanks in Manchester CT now, and start seeing a difference in your energy costs.

Funding gap forces library closures in Jackson County, Oregon

Wednesday, February 14, 2007

Due to a US$23 million budget shortfall, all public libraries in Jackson County, Oregon are scheduled to close April 6. The U.S. Congress did not renew the Secure Rural Schools and Self-Determination Act, which replaces property tax revenues with revenue sharing from timber harvests. Jackson County used the revenue to pay for libraries and sherriff’s patrols. Voters rejected a property tax increase last November. A similar increase will appear on the May ballot; such increases must pass a double-majority vote: a majority of county voters must turn out for the election, and a majority of those must support the increase.

Supporters hope the measure will pass this time. “Many people didn’t believe we were going to close libraries.” said County Commissioner C.W. Smith. The Ashland City Council has said it would find a funding solution to keep their branch of the library open; other cities have not made similar statements. Some alternative funding solutions, such as charging subscription fees, have been considered. However, charging fees for access to libraries is illegal in Oregon.

Jackson County is located in Southern Oregon, and has a population of 181,000. The Jackson County Library System consists of 15 branches.
